Representative Projects

Notable work across civic, mixed-use, and transit.

A selection of recent high-profile projects where K2's Principal - Trevor Kelly, PE has played a key role and shaped outcomes for owners and the public.

Raleigh Convention Center Expansion & Red Hat Amphitheater Relocation

Civic · Public Assembly

Raleigh Convention Center Expansion & Red Hat Amphitheater Relocation

~$400M

Major expansion of downtown Raleigh's flagship convention center paired with the relocation of the Red Hat Amphitheater — a high-visibility civic investment delivered under intense public scrutiny and stakeholder coordination.

Seaboard Station Development

Multi-Phase Mixed-Use

Seaboard Station Development

~$215M

A multi-phase mixed-use redevelopment integrating residential, retail, and public space in one of Raleigh's most active urban corridors, requiring coordinated phasing alongside ongoing tenant operations. Among other unique elements, the team constructed a 4-story below grade parking deck requiring removal of over 100,000 cubic yards of soil in an excavation 35 feet deep the size of a city block. Much of this development was delivered at the height of the pandemic where material and labor availability were extremely volatile.

Raleigh Union Station

Multi-Modal Transit Hub

Raleigh Union Station

~$60M

A mixed-use multi-modal transit station in the heart of the warehouse district in downtown Raleigh. Delivered in a Joint-venture CM-at-Risk method, this complex downtown infrastructure project was like no other in history as it combined major civil and building scopes under a single contract - everything from constructing two new railway bridges to the complete adaptive re-use of an existing supply warehouse, from steel structure to drywall. Additional complex elements included cut and cover tunnel construction, and the complete shoring of the full weight of an active Class 1 Freight Railroad adjacent to the site.

Metro Gold Line Bridge

Transit Infrastructure · Design-Build

Metro Gold Line Bridge

~$18M

This bridge was delivered as a design-build for the Metro Gold Line Authority. This project was constructed over the I-210 Freeway in Arcadia, CA with only minimal overnight shutdowns for major equipment movements. The bridge was constructed over an active earthquake fault, and required intensive coordination with both CALTRANS and Metro Gold Line to meet both agencies' design parameters.

Regional Connector

Transit Infrastructure · Subway

Regional Connector

~$1.8B

A new subway in downtown Los Angeles connecting several downtown stops and reducing or eliminating transfers for riders. The pursuit phase of this mega project was an entire project in itself, lasting over a year and requiring management of over 40 design consultants to compile the best and most cost-effective design approach. The team won the project, and it was completed in 2023 after about nine years of construction.

Catskill / Delaware UV Disinfection Facility

Water Infrastructure · Heavy Mechanical

Catskill / Delaware UV Disinfection Facility

~$1.3B

A truly once-in-a-lifetime project, this $1.3 billion water treatment facility is the largest of its kind in the world. Using UV disinfection technology, water from two aqueducts combines in the facility to flow through thousands of feet of 144" and 84" spiral welded pipe. The project fit the definition of "heavy mechanical construction," combining elements of heavy civil construction with some of the largest mechanical components available in the world. Construction commenced in 2008 and was completed approximately five years later.
